MHI air conditioner stops heating: is it defrosting?
A heating pause does not always mean a fault. Learn what to observe during defrost and how to separate an air conditioner problem from an app problem.
If your MHI air conditioner pauses during heating on a cold day, it may be running a defrost cycle. That is a process inside the equipment, not a command from MyAirco. Reconnecting the Wi-Fi will not make a normal defrost cycle finish sooner.
What happens during defrost?
Frost can form on the outdoor heat exchanger during heating. The unit periodically removes it so that heating can continue. Indoor airflow may pause, and the outdoor unit may release steam. MHI describes this behaviour in its Ciara user manual. Indicators and duration are model-specific.
Use your own manual to identify the expected light pattern. Do not assume that every flashing light on every Mitsubishi unit means defrost.
Make a useful observation
- Check the operating modeConfirm that HEAT is selected and the target still calls for warmth. Note whether someone changed the mode with another controller.
- Note when the pause startedA rough start time helps you compare the pause with the model’s normal behaviour.
- Watch for automatic recoveryIf heating resumes by itself, record that too. Avoid interrupting a normal cycle with repeated power changes.
- Record any error indicationA photograph or written code is more useful to an installer than “it stopped once”.
Is the app connected?
If MyAirco can still refresh the unit’s state, a heating pause is different from a lost network connection. Conversely, an unavailable tile tells you about communication; it does not prove that the equipment has stopped heating.
Look at the physical unit and use the remote to separate those two questions. MyAirco does not provide a service diagnosis or a dedicated defrost-history screen.
When to ask the installer
Contact the installer if heating does not resume as described in the manual, a fault code remains, or the room never warms despite suitable settings. Describe the outside conditions, selected mode and pause length. Do not chip ice from the unit or try to force a defrost with hot water.
For the basic controls, use the heating-mode guide. If the equipment works but the phone loses contact, follow the network checks instead.
