Where is your air conditioner’s Wi-Fi password? SSID and KEY explained

Find the right Wi-Fi details for your MHI air conditioner. Understand the module KEY, your router password and an app account password.

There are two Wi-Fi passwords involved in a typical air conditioner Wi-Fi setup. The module’s KEY lets your phone join the airco’s temporary network. Your router password lets the airco join your home network. Mixing them up is an easy way to get stuck halfway through pairing.

What do SSID, KEY and MAC mean?

  • SSID: the name of a wireless network. During setup, this may be a Smart-M-Air network belonging to the module.
  • KEY: the password for that module network. Enter it when the phone asks to join the temporary network.
  • MAC: a hardware identifier. It can help you match the module to an entry in the router’s device list. It is not the Wi-Fi password.

MHI’s Smart M-Air FAQ explains that external Wi-Fi adapter details are on the interface label and built-in versions use supplied label information. Check the paperwork and accessible labels first.

If the label is hard to reach

Look in the installer’s handover pack for a copy or photograph. If you cannot find it, ask the installer where the information for your unit was supplied. Do not remove electrical covers or pull a fitted module out just to look for a password.

There is no useful universal password to guess. Instructions for another unit may show example details that do not belong to your airco.

When to enter your home password

After joining the module network, return to MyAirco. The app asks for the home Wi-Fi name and password to send to the module. Use the network you want the airco to join, with the exact spelling and capitalisation.

A label on your router may show its original password. If someone changed it later, use the current password instead. Do not confuse the router’s administration password with its Wi-Fi password.

Keep the details private

Store the module information with your household documents. When asking for help online, cover the KEY, QR code and home password. You can describe the stage where setup stops without sharing credentials.

If the phone connects but warns about internet access, see why the setup network has no internet. If the airco cannot join the router, check the network requirements.
